The Nigerian military has inaugurated a general court martial to try 36 personnel accused of involvement in an alleged plot to overthrow the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the proceedings were set in motion on Friday by the Defence Headquarters at the Scorpion Mess in Asokoro, Abuja, under heavy security presence.

The session was held behind closed doors due to the sensitive nature of the case.

Journalists, including accredited defence correspondents who had earlier received invitations, were denied access to the venue, while security operatives also restricted the use of mobile phones around the area.
The 36 defendants were brought into the facility in an Army Headquarters Garrison bus at about 8:53 am.
The military trial is running alongside separate criminal proceedings instituted by the Federal Government against civilians allegedly linked to the same coup plot at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
