EKO HOT BLOG reports that the lawmakers announced their defection on Monday, following the resignation of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from the NNPP. The development marks a major shift in the balance of power within the state legislature.
The defections came days after about 774 members of the NNPP reportedly dumped the party for the APC in Rimin Gado Local Government Area, signalling a growing movement away from the opposition party at the grassroots and legislative levels.
Governor Yusuf had earlier announced his decision to leave the NNPP, citing prolonged internal crises and unresolved legal disputes, which he said had weakened the party’s cohesion across the country. He is expected to formally register with the APC later on Monday.
Among the lawmakers who defected are the Speaker of the House, Jibril Ismail Falgore (Rogo); Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Bello Butu Butu (Tofa Rimin Gado); Majority Leader, Lawan Hussain (Dala); Deputy Majority Leader, Garba Shehu Fammar (Kibiya); Chief Whip, Muddasir Ibrahim Zawachiki (Kumbotso); and Majority Whip, Zakariyya Abdullahi Nuhu (Gabasawa).
Others include Lawal Tini (Ajingi); Musa Tahir Haruna (Albasu); Ali Lawan Alhassan (Bagwai Shanono); Ali Muhammad Tiga (Bebeji); Hafiz Gambo (Bunkure); Rabiu Shuaibu (Dawakin Kudu); Tukur Mohammed (Fagge); and Murtala Muhammad Kadage (Garko).
Also on the list are Abdulmajid Isah Umar (Gwale); Engr Ahmad Ibrahim (Karaye); Alhassan Zakari (Kura Garun Malam); Suleiman Mukhtar Ishaq (Madobi); Abdulhamid Abdul (Minjibir); Muhammad Ibrahim (Rano); Kabiru Sule Dahiru (Tarauni); and Ali Abdullahi Manager (Wudil).

The latest defections are expected to strengthen the APC’s position in Kano State as the party moves to consolidate recent political gains ahead of future elections.
