Kendrick Lamar’s triumph at the 2025 Grammy Awards not only cemented his place as one of rap’s greatest but also added fuel to his long-standing feud with fellow rapper Drake.

Lamar took home the prestigious awards for both Song of the Year and Record of the Year for his track “Not Like Us,” a sharp diss aimed squarely at Drake.

But it wasn’t just his victories that had fans buzzing. Lamar’s fashion choice on the Grammy red carpet, denim-on-denim, also known as a “Canadian tuxedo”, seemed to be another subtle jab at the Canadian rapper.

As a Canadian, Drake has often been associated with the “Canadian tuxedo” look, and Lamar’s outfit felt like an unmistakable dig at his rival.

This choice of attire, paired with Lamar’s continued collaboration with Drake’s ex SZA, only intensified the ongoing tension.

“Not Like Us,” released as part of Lamar’s latest album, was laden with double entendres and direct shots at Drake.

The track references Drake’s album “Certified Lover Boy” with the line, “Certified Lover Boy? Certified pedophile,” and features provocative cover art of Drake’s house marked with red tags, resembling those used to identify registered sex offenders.

Lamar’s music video for the track included owl symbolism, an allusion to the OVO Sound label that Drake founded, and even showed Lamar smashing an owl piñata, symbolizing his animosity towards Drake.

Lamar’s Grammy wins may have stung even more for Drake, who is embroiled in a legal battle with Spotify and Universal Music Group, claiming inflated streaming numbers for “Not Like Us.”

This comes on the heels of Drake’s own Grammy history, where his 2016 diss track “Back to Back” lost to Lamar’s “Alright” for Best Rap Performance.

The roots of the Lamar-Drake feud trace back over a decade, but their recent back-and-forth has seen increasingly personal and pointed diss tracks.

Lamar’s “Euphoria,” “6:16 in LA,” and most notably “Not Like Us,” continue to fuel the rivalry.
