The sudden endorsement has added a new layer of friction to the ongoing leadership crisis within the main opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Reacting to the political development via his official account on X on Sunday, May 31, 2026, Keyamo characterized the entire scenario as a “bizarre comedy taken too far”.
He criticized the politicians orchestrating the move, expressing disappointment that individuals who once walked the corridors of power would engage in what he described as a charade.
The minister questioned the logic of presenting a presidential ticket to a statesman by proxy through an unregistered political bloc, calling it a “journey to nowhere” that disrespects the standing of the former Nigerian leader.

Keyamo further noted that the Turaki-led group’s announcement comes just weeks after a rival PDP faction, loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, independently declared Senator Sandy Onor as their own 2027 presidential candidate.
To safeguard his hard-earned reputation, Keyamo advised Jonathan to distance himself firmly from the group’s actions. He warned that a failure to put out a strong “no, thank you” statement might lead citizens to reflect poorly on the past administration.
As of the time of filing this report, former President Goodluck Jonathan has not made a public comment regarding the nomination.
