EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking after receiving the party’s nomination, the governor said his decision to seek Nigeria’s highest office was motivated by a desire to restore hope among citizens and reposition the country for sustainable growth.
He expressed confidence that Nigeria could overcome its current economic and social challenges through responsible leadership, discipline and policies focused on improving the welfare of ordinary citizens.
According to Makinde, his administration would prioritise reforms in critical sectors of the economy if elected president in 2027.
The governor stressed that Nigerians should benefit more from the nation’s vast natural resources, particularly its oil wealth, just as citizens of other resource-rich countries enjoy the benefits of their countries’ economic assets.
“I believe that we possess the capacity to rebuild our economy through honesty, discipline and practical reforms. When I speak of practical reforms, I mean reforms that directly improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians,” Makinde said.
“Nigerians must benefit from the fact that we are an oil-producing nation, just as citizens of other resource-producing countries benefit from their natural wealth.”
Makinde also called for comprehensive reforms within the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd), arguing that the organisation must become more efficient, transparent and commercially driven.
“The NNPC must be reformed into a lean, efficient and commercially driven institution through proper corporate restructuring, stronger partnerships and institutional reforms,” he stated.
The governor maintained that strengthening key national institutions and implementing people-focused policies would be central to his vision for Nigeria.

His emergence as the APM presidential candidate sets the stage for what is expected to be an intense political contest ahead of the 2027 general election, as parties continue to position themselves for the race to succeed President Bola Tinubu.
