Lagos CSC Embraces Green Solutions for Better Service Delivery

Lagos State Civil Service Commission (CSC) has committed to integrating sustainable practices into its operations as part of its strategy to enhance service delivery and address the current economic challenges, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This commitment emerged from a two-day retreat for the Commission’s management staff and directors, centered around the theme: “Navigating Current Economic Challenges and Integrating Sustainable Practices for Optimal Service Delivery.”

In her address, Mrs. Olubunmi Fabamwo, Chairman of the Lagos State Civil Service Commission, underscored the necessity of adopting sustainable approaches to ensure government operations remain effective and future-focused.

She stressed that, as the largest employer of the Lagos State Government workforce, the Civil Service Commission must integrate the SDGs into its daily activities.

“Embracing sustainability is critical for ensuring that our Civil Service remains efficient, responsive, and aligned with global sustainability goals,” Mrs. Fabamwo stated.

She further reiterated the Commission’s dedication to cultivating a workforce that not only meets its mandates but does so with sustainability in mind, urging the Public Service Workforce to embed these principles in their everyday tasks.

Delivering a goodwill message, Hon. Oladele Ajayi, Chairman of the House Committee on Public Service, Establishments, Training, and Pensions, highlighted the importance of the retreat’s theme, praising it as a timely response to the current economic landscape.

“As we gather here today,” Hon. Ajayi remarked, “we have a unique opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions and explore practical strategies for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the Public Service.”

He also commended the Commission’s leadership under Mrs. Fabamwo for promoting a culture of effective communication, continuous learning, and strategic planning, which he identified as crucial for a dynamic and responsive Public Service.

During the keynote presentation, titled “Integrating SDGs into Policy Formulation, Implementation, and Monitoring in the Public Service,” Dr. Oreoluwa Finnih-Awokoya, Special Adviser to the Governor on SDGs, outlined strategies for embedding sustainability into various government functions, including budgeting, procurement, and human resource management.

Represented by her Technical Special Assistant, Dr. Finnih-Awokoya emphasized that the SDGs serve as a practical framework for addressing Lagos’ unique challenges, such as infrastructure development, youth employment, and urban growth.

She acknowledged the Commission as the backbone of the Public Service and praised its role in turning government policies into tangible benefits for millions of Lagosians.

Earlier, Mr. Akinbode Obadina, Permanent Secretary of the Commission, emphasized the retreat’s relevance in helping the Civil Service adapt to economic realities while prioritizing sustainability as a core element of government operations.

Represented by Mrs. Grace Olaopin, Director of the Discipline and Exit Directorate, Mr. Obadina expressed optimism that the retreat would facilitate critical discussions on how the Civil Service can thrive amid economic uncertainties while securing a prosperous future for Lagos State.

Distinguished attendees at the event included members of the Lagos State Civil Service Commission, such as Mr. Adesina Odeyemi, Hon. Kamal Olorunoje, Mr. Babatunde Seriki, and Hon. Hodewu Suru-Avoseh.

Also present were Mrs. Bibilomo Olushekun, Permanent Secretary, Office of Local Government Establishments and Training, and Miss Ronke Azeez, Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board.
