Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos State Government has reiterated plans to relocate Ikeja Computer Village traders to Kantagua, Abule-Egba, saying “there is no going back.”

Special Adviser to the Governor on eGIS and Urban Development, Dr. Olajide Babatunde, stated this during a tour of Computer Village. He said the government is committed to regenerating and developing urban areas.

“The relocation of Computer Village to Kantagua is in progress and when completed will have world class facilities like schools, hospitals, hotels, warehouses, storage rooms, to make shopping more conducive,” Babatunde said.

He explained that Computer Village is designated as a residential area in state laws and its commercial activities distort the city’s master plan. “We cannot allow the distortion to continue, the residential status must be restored,” he added.

Babatunde noted Lagos’ growth requires proper planning, hence relocating Computer Village to a more spacious area with less traffic implications.

The adviser assured traders of a transparent relocation process with their consultation, saying “nothing would be imposed on them.”
