Crackdowns against illegal street trading intensified across Lagos on Thursday as state authorities carried out coordinated clean-up exercises in several busy locations.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the enforcement drive was revealed in a video posted on Friday by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, showing officials clearing traders who had taken over roadways and caused traffic disruptions.

According to Wahab, the Environmental Task Force moved into areas including Ogudu Road near Ojota Junction, Iyana-Ipaja Under Bridge, and Egbeda Junction, where roadside trading had become a safety concern.

He disclosed that goods were confiscated during the exercise and 15 individuals were taken into custody.
The commissioner noted that those arrested would face prosecution, while all seized items would be permanently forfeited to the state in accordance with the law. He reiterated that trading on the streets is prohibited in Lagos.

“Street trading remains illegal in Lagos, and enforcement will continue in a firm but fair manner to ensure our roads are safe, orderly, and accessible to all,” Wahab said.
Residents and traders were again advised to obey existing regulations, as the government insists that compliance is essential to maintaining free movement and public safety across the state.
