A Lagos hotelier is in police custody following allegations of sexual assault on several male students.
Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone-2 Command, Lagos, AIG Adegoke Fayoade, confirmed the detention on Wednesday, stating that the suspect will remain in custody pending the conclusion of the investigation.
The allegations surfaced after a 16-year-old secondary school student confided in his mother about encounters with the hotelier at his establishment located in the Bucknor area of Isheri Oshun.
The boy’s parents promptly reported the matter to the police at Zone 2 Command.
The student’s account alleges that the hotelier lured him and four other students to the hotel and subsequently molested them.
A family source, speaking to NAN, described the boy’s initial reluctance to disclose the abuse. “We rushed him to a prayer house, and after some days when he became a little bit sober, we took him to Isheri-Oshun Police Station where he made a statement and narrated his ugly encounter with the hotelier,” the source explained.
The situation took a distressing turn when, after revealing the names of the other students involved, the boy reportedly relapsed and exhibited signs of mental distress.
Despite this setback, police were able to obtain a statement from one of the other students, who corroborated the account and provided further details about the alleged abuse, including the use of a laptop.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to gather more information and provide support to the victims and their families.
The name of the hotelier is being withheld at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation.
