The Lagos State Ministry of Housing has intensified monitoring of ongoing housing developments across the state, warning contractors handling critical projects to accelerate work or risk being replaced.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Commissioner for Housing, Moruf Akinderu-Fatai, issued the warning during an inspection of the Lagos State Housing Estate Sangotedo Phase II Scheme and two joint venture housing projects within the Abraham Adesanya Housing Estate.

The inspection, conducted alongside the Permanent Secretary, Engr. Abdulhafis Toriola, and technical directors in the ministry, was aimed at assessing the pace of work, resolving technical challenges and ensuring the timely delivery of quality housing units.
Akinderu-Fatai expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of construction by some contractors, stressing that the state government had fulfilled its obligations by providing adequate financial and technical support.
“The contractors are being charged to put in more effort, as the government has given them all they need, financially and technically, to complete the projects on time. If the contractors are slow, we will replace them,” he said.
The commissioner disclosed that four housing projects currently under construction within the Abraham Adesanya Housing Scheme would provide more than 600 housing units upon completion.
“We have four ongoing projects in the Abraham Adesanya Scheme. The total is above 600 units. We noticed some technical issues and we want to resolve them. We want to double up on our pace,” he said.
At the Sangotedo Phase II Housing Scheme, Akinderu-Fatai projected that construction would be completed between October and November this year.
“For Sangotedo, October-November, we will be done, and also see to the fact that we finish the Abraham Adesanya and Sangotedo projects before the end of this administration,” he stated.

He noted that the completion of the projects would significantly boost Lagos State’s housing stock and support the government’s commitment to providing affordable, decent and sustainable homes for residents.
The commissioner acknowledged that inflation had contributed to earlier delays but assured stakeholders that the challenge had been largely addressed.
“We would have been done earlier, if not for the inflation. We have conquered that challenge of inflation actually, so we are good to go,” he added.
Akinderu-Fatai reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining strict oversight of contractors and ensuring that housing developments meet approved standards of quality, safety and sustainability.
