The 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) is set to continue in Lagos State today (Thursday), following a postponement of papers earlier scheduled for Wednesday, July 1.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that the shift was made after the state government observed the Oro Festival in parts of the Ikorodu Division.

According to Taiwo Badejo, Information Officer at the Department of Basic and Secondary Education, Lagos State Ministry of Education, the examinations will now proceed as rescheduled.

The Lagos State Examinations Board explained that the adjustment became necessary after consultations with relevant stakeholders and in consideration of the safety of candidates, exam officials, and other participants.
The papers affected by the suspension, originally fixed for Wednesday, will now hold on Tuesday, July 7, while all other subjects will continue as contained in the original timetable.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the board described the postponement as a precautionary step aimed at ensuring a smooth and disruption-free examination process.

It added that the decision was taken to protect lives and maintain order during the conduct of the examinations.
The 2026 BECE began across the state on Monday, June 29, with thousands of junior secondary school students participating.
The board also advised candidates, parents, guardians, and school administrators to follow the updated timetable as communicated through their schools.
It reaffirmed its commitment to conducting credible, transparent, and seamless examinations aligned with Lagos State’s education standards.
