Wahab urged all residents to actively participate by cleaning their surroundings, clearing drainage channels in front of their properties, and ensuring proper waste disposal.

He emphasized that maintaining a clean environment is a civic responsibility and crucial to building a healthier, cleaner, and flood-resilient Lagos.
“The monthly sanitation exercise is a collective responsibility. It will be supported with the full enforcement power of the Lagos State Government,” Wahab stated.
Speaking further, Wahab reflected on the historical context of the exercise, noting that prior to 2016, Lagos had a strong culture of community cleanliness, which encouraged residents to dedicate time each month to maintaining their neighborhoods.
“Due to various challenges, the exercise was halted, but with the growing environmental and flood-related issues facing our state, it has become imperative to revive it,” Wahab explained.

He encouraged Lagosians to dedicate just one to two hours each month to uphold the exercise, pointing out that while weekly cleanups already occur in markets, this monthly initiative aims to restore the broader community practice of keeping the city clean, as was customary before 2016.
“The reintroduction of this exercise is a bold step by the state government to redefine Lagos as a model city in environmental responsibility,” Wahab added.
The Commissioner called on residents to cooperate fully to ensure the success of the initiative and to contribute to a sustainable and sanitary Lagos State.
