It was a moment of mixed emotions at the State Secretariat in Ikeja as management and staff of the Lagos State Government, State Treasury Office (STO), gathered to celebrate and bid farewell to the Accountant-General of Lagos State, Abiodun Shefiu Muritala, who retired from active service in grand style.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the send-off ceremony was marked by joy, gratitude, and heartfelt tributes as colleagues thanked Almighty God for what they described as a meritorious and impactful career in public service.
At about 1:40 p.m., an emotional crowd escorted his vehicle out of the State Secretariat amid cheers, applause, and glowing encomiums.
Dr. Muritala, an illustrious son of Epe, began his public service career in 1995 when he joined the Lagos State Civil Service (Local Government), setting out on a professional journey defined by dedication, discipline, and excellence.
He later rose to become the immediate past Accountant-General of Lagos State and Permanent Secretary, State Treasury Office. He was sworn into office in November 2019 by Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
During his tenure, Lagos State witnessed significant improvements in its financial management framework.
His administration prioritized capacity building for accountants, strengthened internal controls, integrated digital financial tools, and modernized accounting systems to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in public financial management.
Colleagues at the ceremony described his leadership as visionary and reform-driven, noting that his contributions have left a lasting imprint on the State Treasury Office and the broader financial structure of Lagos State.
