Lagos State is set to make history by hosting Africa’s first-ever E1 Series electric boat racing championship on October 4 and 5, 2025.
This major milestone was confirmed by Rodi Basso, the E1 Series Chief Executive Officer, during a press briefing, where he described the achievement as a major step for sports, sustainability, and business in Africa, Eko Hot Blog reports.

The event, a partnership with the Lagos State Government, aims to attract significant global investment and showcase the state’s potential.
Sam Egube, Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, highlighted the race’s alignment with the governor’s commitment to sustainability and innovative marine transport.

He stated that hosting the championship signals a new era of economic growth, tourism, and global prestige for Lagos.
Additionally, Commissioner for Transportation Oluwaseun Osiyemi announced the upcoming “Omi Eko Project,” a plan to deploy 72 electric boats to ease traffic congestion on land.
Also, the Commissioner for Tourism, Toke Benson-Awoyinka, encouraged local businesses and artisans to take advantage of the economic opportunities the event will bring.
Veteran sports journalists have hailed the E1 Series as a game-changing event that will firmly place Lagos on the global sporting map.
