The Lagos State Primary Health Care Board (LSPHCB) has embarked on a significant initiative to improve public health across the state by partnering with the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI).
According to Eko Hot Blog, the two organizations collaborated on a three-day workshop to develop the Lagos State Five-Year Routine Immunisation Roadmap (2026–2030), a strategic plan that aims to strengthen primary healthcare and improve child survival rates across the state.

Speaking at the workshop, LSPHCB Permanent Secretary Ibrahim Mustafa described immunisation as far more than a public health measure. He stated that it is a “social contract” and a collective responsibility to safeguard every child with life-saving vaccines, regardless of their social background or location.

Mustafa acknowledged that while Lagos has made considerable progress in its routine immunisation efforts, coverage remains inconsistent. He highlighted the particular challenges facing hard-to-reach populations, including residents of riverine areas, informal settlements, and mobile communities.
The roadmap, which aims to serve as a coordinated framework for achieving universal immunisation coverage and reinforcing the primary healthcare system, will specifically address gaps to ensure every child receives proper care over the next five years.
Mustafa emphasized that this initiative aims not only to expand vaccine coverage but also to bolster the entire health infrastructure. He expressed confidence that strengthening the primary healthcare system will position Lagos to make faster progress toward achieving Universal Health Coverage.

The ultimate goal, he said, is to guarantee that all citizens have access to the health services they need without facing financial hardship.
This strategic partnership and the resulting roadmap underscore the Lagos State Government’s commitment to prioritizing the health and well-being of its population, particularly its youngest citizens.
It represents a forward-looking approach to public health, ensuring that the state builds a resilient and equitable healthcare system for the future.
