Eko Hot Blog reports that the festival, organised under the leadership of Bamgboye Azeez, Chairman of the LAMAF Planning Committee, in collaboration with Afrihill Press and the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Lagos Mainland Branch, is designed to become an annual platform for promoting the area’s cultural identity and creative industry.

According to the organisers, Lagos Mainland has produced notable talents across music, theatre, literature, fashion, film, photography, dance and visual arts, but many of the stories behind these contributions remain undocumented.

LAMAF is therefore being positioned as an avenue to preserve the community’s history, celebrate its cultural diversity and create opportunities for emerging and established creatives.
Azeez described the festival as an initiative that belongs to residents and lovers of Lagos Mainland, stressing the importance of preserving the stories and contributions of people who have shaped the community.
He said the festival would bring together established cultural figures and emerging talents while creating opportunities for collaboration and creative exchange.
The maiden edition is expected to feature art exhibitions, cultural displays, heritage presentations, photography and visual installations, live music, dance, theatre, spoken word, fashion shows, film screenings and creative workshops.

Panel discussions, networking sessions and community engagement activities are also planned as part of the festival programme.
The organisers said the event would also recognise individuals, institutions and organisations that have contributed significantly to cultural preservation, the arts and community development in Lagos Mainland.
Beyond entertainment, LAMAF is expected to promote cultural tourism, support the creative economy and provide emerging artists with opportunities to showcase their work.
The festival also seeks to strengthen partnerships among government institutions, schools, cultural organisations, private-sector businesses and development partners.
The organisers said the initiative comes at a time when Lagos is increasingly recognised as a major creative hub in Africa, adding that Lagos Mainland deserves a signature cultural platform that can showcase its heritage and talent.

Artists, performers, writers, photographers, filmmakers, designers, historians, schools, cultural institutions, traditional leaders, government agencies, corporate organisations, media practitioners and members of the public are expected to participate.
Details about the festival venue, programme schedule, featured artists, sponsorship packages and partnership opportunities are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
LAMAF is planned as an annual cultural festival focused on preserving Lagos Mainland’s heritage, promoting artistic expression, empowering young creatives and strengthening the community’s contribution to Nigeria’s cultural and creative economy.
