Lagos State Government has announced that since Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu took office, over 15,000 individuals have undergone training in various skills, such as makeup, catering, soap making, and event planning.
Each participant received essential startup kits to support their new ventures.
Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. Bolaji Dada, made this announcement while addressing approximately 500 beneficiaries at the closing ceremony of the Lifeskills Economic Empowerment Programme, also known as the Short Term Skill Acquisition Training, recently held at Sanni Agbesinga Community in Alimosho and Parafa Alagemo Community in Ikorodu North.
Dada was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Oluyemi Kalesanwo.
She explained that the programme also encompassed training in entrepreneurial skills, health awareness, and environmental safety, ensuring a comprehensive approach to empowerment.
Participants were informed about the Lagos State Health Insurance Scheme and educated on essential health practices, highlighting the importance of personal well-being in their entrepreneurial endeavors.

“This event signifies not just the conclusion of a training programme but the dawn of new opportunities for all participants,” Hon. Dada stated. She emphasized that applying the skills learned can greatly transform their economic situations.
Hon. Dada commended the participants for their dedication and resilience, encouraging them to utilize their new skills to empower their communities and inspire future generations.
She also expressed deep appreciation to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his steadfast commitment to alleviating poverty and fostering financial independence among women in Lagos State.
In her vote of thanks, Olufunke Shyllon, Director of the Women Department in WAPA, urged participants to regard the skills they acquired as invaluable assets.
She assured them that the Ministry’s Monitoring and Evaluation Team would oversee the proper use of the empowerment packs to ensure meaningful impact.
Earlier, Adeniran Ogunbawo, Chairman of the Community Development Association in Ikorodu North, and Olalekan Erinle, Secretary of the Community Development Association in Sanni Agbesinga, described the training programme as transformative, stating that it equipped participants to add value to local communities, enhance economic growth, and combat poverty at the grassroots level.
