Lebanon Confirms One Dead As Israel Resumes Strikes On South

- An Israeli drone strike in southern Lebanon killed one person, authorities confirmed.
- Israeli airstrikes targeted multiple areas, escalating tensions despite a November ceasefire.
- Hezbollah denied involvement in recent rocket fire, accusing Israel of aggression.
A fresh wave of Israeli airstrikes hit southern Lebanon on Sunday, killing one person, the Lebanese health ministry confirmed. The attack, which targeted a vehicle in Aita al-Shaab, came a day after the most intense escalation between Israel and Hezbollah since the November ceasefire.
The Israeli military later stated it had “attacked and eliminated” a Hezbollah member in the area, reinforcing its ongoing operations against the Iran-backed militant group. Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA) also reported additional Israeli strikes on Naqurah, Shihin, and Labbouneh near the border.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Saturday’s escalation saw seven people killed in Israeli strikes, including an attack on the city of Tyre that reportedly targeted a Hezbollah official. The Israeli military justified the strikes as a response to rocket fire from Lebanon, though Hezbollah denied any involvement, accusing Israel of using the claim as a pretext for further aggression.
Iran strongly condemned the airstrikes, with Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei calling them “extensive military aggression” and warning that Israel poses a significant threat to international peace and security.
Despite the November ceasefire agreement, tensions have remained high, with Israel continuing to target Hezbollah positions. Under the deal, Hezbollah was expected to withdraw north of the Litani River and dismantle military infrastructure in the south, while Israel was supposed to retreat beyond the UN-demarcated Blue Line. However, Israel has missed two deadlines for withdrawal and continues to hold strategic positions in Lebanese territory.
