Eko Hot Blog reports that the initiative is targeted at restoring the natural beauty of the coastline, with the Environmental Department mandated to immediately clear accumulated waste and debris that have continued to pose environmental and aesthetic concerns.
Speaking on the exercise, Hon. Kasali stressed the importance of collective responsibility in environmental protection, noting that indiscriminate waste disposal threatens both human health and the ecosystem.
He appealed directly to residents of Ikegun and Folu communities to embrace proper waste management practices.
“The beach is a shared heritage that must be protected by everyone,” the Chairman said. “Dumping refuse along the coastline endangers our environment and the lives of our people.”
He further urged residents to partner with the council by exposing environmental offenders, adding, “We can only achieve a cleaner Lekki when residents take ownership of their environment and report those who violate environmental laws.”
The beachfront clean-up initiative reflects Hon. Kasali’s firm commitment to sustainable development, environmental protection, and improved community well-being, while aligning Lekki LCDA with global best practices in responsible waste management and environmental conservation.
