Edo State Police Command operatives arrested 55-year-old Osaro Ahunwan on New Year’s Day for allegedly setting fire to the house of his estranged wife, 54-year-old Tina Uyi, who is based in Italy.

Eko Hot Blog gathered that Police also apprehended Tina’s elder brother, Odaro Oviarobo, who allegedly provided information about his sister’s whereabouts to Osaro in exchange for a payment of #5,000.

The incident occurred in Idumwonwina, near Oluku, in Edo State’s Ovia North-East Local Government Area.

As a result of the fire, Tina lost significant amounts of both local and foreign currency, as well as packages intended for loved ones in Nigeria from her friends in Italy.

According to an eyewitness, Tina had just returned from Italy on December 31, 2024, and was in her bathroom when she heard a loud noise at her window. Upon investigating, she discovered it was Osaro demanding entry into her apartment.

Tina reportedly refused to let her estranged husband enter her apartment, asserting that their relationship was over since her family had returned her bride price in April 2024.

Osaro allegedly became enraged by Tina’s rejection and allegedly threatened to set her apartment ablaze and inflict harm on anyone inside.

The eyewitness said, “Despite Tina’s plea for him to leave the premises, Osaro reportedly shattered the glass windows, doused the apartment with Petro, and set it on fire, using a lighter and fuel. This left the entire apartment completely razed.

“The inferno quickly engulfed the building, but neighbours intervened and successfully rescued Tina’s elderly parents from the flames.

“It took the frantic efforts of men of the Edo State Fire Service to put out the flames that wreaked havoc before their arrival”.

Tina who spoke from her hospital bed, narrated that sometime in 2023, Osaro had threatened to kill her and himself as well.

According to Tina,”Osaro destroyed my Lexus (330) Jeep when we had a misunderstanding.

He likes too much control, and is very suspicious, even when I am out shopping, and he calls, as soon as he hears a male’s voice, he abuses me and calls me names.

“So because of his violent and overbearing character, I decided to quit the marriage that lasted less than 2 years”

Allegedly, Osaro confessed that Tina’s elder brother, Odaro Oviarobo (also known as “OD”), provided him with detailed information regarding Tina’s return itinerary.

Osaro reportedly admitted to paying Odaro ₦5,000 for the information and revealed that he had concealed himself in Odaro’s apartment with a container of petrol. Osaro further claimed that Odaro had supplied the lighter used to ignite the fire.

Sources indicated that Odaro held resentment towards his sister, Tina, for supposedly not providing financial support despite her construction of a hotel.

It was also revealed that Tina had previously funded Odaro’s overseas trip in 2003, but he returned to Nigeria willingly after a decade, leaving behind his partner and baby daughter.

Since his return, he has reportedly been unemployed and depended on Tina for financial support.
