1. Ondo man beats nurse, doctor with cutlass over son’s death
Drama ensued at the Mother and Child Hospital, Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Saturday as a yet-to-be-identified man allegedly attacked medical workers at the hospital after his son died.
The man was said to have gone haywire when his son passed on in the hospital as he beat a doctor and nurse on duty with cutlass and chased other medics, blaming the staff of the hospital for death of the five-year-old boy.
The incident was said to have paralysed all activities in the government-owned hospital for several hours.
2. We played good game against Guinea-Bissau, says coach Peseiro
The head coach of the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro, has said that his team played a good game despite the defeat by the Guinea-Bissau opponent in the Group A qualifier for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations at the National Stadium in Abuja on Friday.
Reacting on his verified Twitter handle on Friday, Peseiro who said the team created many goalscoring opportunities expressed sadness over the outcome of the match.
“We are sad and upset with this bad result. But we played a good game, very attacking, and created many goalscoring opportunities that unfortunately we didn’t take. We want to repeat this performance in Guinea, but scoring. We are going with all our commitment and sacrifice to win,” he tweeted on Saturday.
Guinea Bissau’s Mama Balde scored the only goal of the match, which set his team apart in the 29th minute of game time, taking them to seven points to top the group, brightening their chances of playing in Ivory Coast next year.
3. FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy arrives in Nigeria
The original FIFA Women’s World Cup trophy to be competed for by 32 teams from across the globe from July 20 to August 20 arrived in Abuja on Saturday afternoon.
The trophy arrived in Nigeria after being taken to the three other African countries which will participate in the finals — Morocco, South Africa and Zambia.
Nigeria is the fourth leg of the 32-leg trip the trophy is undertaking before heading to Australia and New Zealand.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that both Australia and New Zealand are the joint hosts of the biggest FIFA Women’s World Cup in history.

4. Kogi governorship: APC screens suspended NWC member after Gov Bello’s intervention
The leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kogi state has finally screened Alhaji Murtala Yakubu-Ajaka, a frontline governorship aspirant after his purported suspension by the party on Thursday.
Also screened by the party were the State Deputy Governor, Chief Edward Onoja, and Senator Smart Adeyemi, all anxious to lead the people of Kogi come January 27, 2024.
Yakubu-Ajaka’s screening was made possible after Governor Yahaya Bello waded into the crisis.
He was suspended for alleged anti-party activities, which the governor frowned at.
5. Anti-party: PDP expels Ogun Assembly aspirant, Enilolobo
The Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) in Abeokuta South local government area of Ogun State has expelled a former State Assembly aspirant on the platform of the party, Solomon Enilolobo for anti-party activities and other offences.
The Chairman of the party in Ward 7, Abeokuta local government, Tajudeen Oyewole who announced the expulsion of Enilolobo at a ward meeting, said the action was coming after Solomon Enilolobo was seen openly decamping to the APC.
He said a committee was set up to look into Enilolobo’s ‘act of betrayal and other activities which impugn on the credibility of the party’.
6. Abia Assembly denies plans to impeach Ikpeazu
Abia State House of Assembly has denied any plan to impeach Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu from office.
Briefing journalists after meeting with Ikpeazu at the Governor’s Lodge in Aba, the members of the State House of Assembly led by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Ifeanyi Uchendu dismissed the rumours making the rounds that the House was planning to impeach the Governor.
Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Solomon Akpulonu and the Minority Leader, Hon. Chukwu Chijioke, described the report as a figment of the imagination of the purveyors of the rumours.

7. Govs-Elect get Certificates-of-Return March 29 to 31
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is to present Certificates-of -Return to Governors-Elect between March 29 and 31.
Members-elect into Assemblies will also be presented their Certificates-of-Return within the same period.
However, the Commission is yet to announce the date for conclusion of the governorship election in Adamawa and Kebbi States, which were declared inconclusive.
8. DSS raises the alarm over plot to violently disrupt peace
The Department of State Service (DSS) has again alerted the public of plans to violently disrupt peace in the country by some persons.
Spokesman of the agency, Dr Peter Afunanya, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday evening.
He warned those who intend to cause a breakdown of law and order to desist.

9. Fintiri vs Binani: INEC gives fresh update on Adamawa supplementary governorship election
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, assured in Abuja on Saturday that it would conduct a credible supplementary governorship election in Adamawa State that would be the pride of the international community and of Nigerians.
Mr Festus Okoye, INEC’s Commissioner for Information and Voter Education, gave the assurance when some women staged a protest at the Commission’s headquarters in the nation’s capital in respect of the Adamawa election.
The protesters were led by Hajiya Lami Lau, the President of the National Council of Women Societies (NCWS).
10. Ilorin Mandate Market shut following police, suspected burglars’ fracas
The Kwara State Government has ordered the shutdown of the Mandate Market in Ilorin, the state capital, following Saturday morning’s skirmishes in the major trading centre.
The market will be re-opened on Monday from 8 am, according to a statement in Ilorin by the Honourable Commissioner for Business, Innovation and Technology, Mallam Ibrahim Akaje.
DAILY POST reports that there were conflicting causes of the fracas as the state police command spokesman, Okasanmi Ajayi, claimed that it broke out between tomatoes and pepper traders, while the spokesman of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, Ayeni Olasunkanmi, reported that trouble broke out when a group of people of Northern origin demanded the release of their kinsmen arrested for alleged burglary of shops in the market complex at night.
