Makinde assured party leaders and members that the PDP is not only active but strategically positioned to challenge its critics and deliver surprises ahead of the next general polls.

The meeting brought together prominent PDP leaders and political office holders from Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Ondo, Osun, and Ekiti states.
Among those in attendance were the PDP National Secretary, Taofeek Arapaja; South-West PDP Chairman, Kamorudeen Ajisafe; Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Debo Ogundoyin; former Osun State governor, Olagunsoye Oyinlola; and former Ogun State governorship candidate, Ladi Adebutu, alongside other party stakeholders.
The gathering also witnessed the formal reception of two groups of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), further boosting the party’s presence in the region.
Addressing the audience, Makinde said the strong turnout at the meeting and the influx of new members clearly disproved claims that the PDP had become politically irrelevant.
He urged party leaders across the South-West to remain united and committed to grassroots mobilisation, stressing the need to strengthen party structures at the community, ward, and local government levels.
Makinde encouraged members to stay loyal and steadfast, expressing confidence in the PDP’s future and its readiness for the 2027 elections.

Also speaking at the event, Ladi Adebutu welcomed the party leaders and new members, insisting that the PDP remains united and well-organised from the ward level to the national stage.
Makinde recently reiterated his loyalty to the PDP amid ongoing defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress, stating that he remains comfortable within the opposition party.
He made the remark after a closed-door meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the State House in Abuja, clarifying that the visit was centred on national governance issues rather than partisan politics.
