The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a man, Alexander Peter, for allegedly killing his 71-year-old mother, Mrs. Atiny Peter, with a machete.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the tragic incident took place in Ikot Inyang village, situated in the Oruk Anam Local Government Area.

The arrest was announced by the state Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, during a press conference on Thursday at the police headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo. Azare stated that the suspect was taken into custody on June 10, and that an investigation is underway to uncover the motive behind the gruesome attack.
“The gruesome incident occurred in Ikot Inyang Village, Oruk Anam Local Government Area, where the suspect reportedly used the machete to hack his mother to death,” Azare said, noting that the command is working to “unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine the motive behind the heinous crime.”
The murder has left the Ikot Inyang community in shock, with many residents expressing disbelief over the violent act committed by a family member.
The Police Command has assured the public that more details will be revealed as investigations continue.
Azare disclosed that within the past six weeks, the command had apprehended 54 suspects involved in various crimes across the state and recovered over 50 firearms along with rounds of ammunition.
