Eko Hot Blog reports that the move followed a series of unscheduled inspection visits to major markets including Otedola Market, Odo-Iragunshi, and Mojoda Market, led by the Supervisor for Environment, Oluseyi Ibrahim.
During the inspections, the environmental team expressed serious concern over the level of uncleanliness and the improper handling of waste observed among traders.
Addressing the market men and women, Hon. Ibrahim stressed that maintaining a clean and hygienic environment is non-negotiable, noting that sanitation is vital to both public health and economic sustainability.
“A clean market environment is essential for healthy living and also encourages business growth. We must all be responsible for keeping our surroundings clean,” he said.
He issued a firm warning that the council would begin to enforce stricter measures against traders who fail to comply with environmental regulations.
“Going forward, any act of negligence will attract sanctions. We will not tolerate any form of environmental indiscipline,” he warned.
In addition, the Supervisor gave a clear directive prohibiting the display or sale of goods on pedestrian walkways, describing the act as hazardous and disruptive.
“No trader is allowed to occupy walkways with goods. It obstructs movement and poses serious safety risks,” he added.
The exercise underscores the commitment of Eredo LCDA to ensuring a cleaner, safer, and more organized environment, while calling on traders and residents to cooperate with authorities in sustaining proper sanitation standards.
