In comments released to AFP, Mayweather expressed confidence in his continued ability to break records in the sport. He insisted that both his exhibition with Tyson and the professional fight expected to follow will generate massive revenue and global attention.
A return to professional action is tentatively penciled in for the summer, though his opponent has yet to be named. Further announcements are expected in the coming weeks.

Known as “Money” during his career, Mayweather once topped Forbes’ list of highest-paid athletes, earning an estimated $300 million in 2015 alone. At his peak, he dominated the welterweight division and was widely regarded as the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world.
While his achievements inside the ring earned admiration for his discipline, defensive mastery, and ring intelligence, Mayweather’s career has also drawn criticism. Some detractors argued that his cautious style made for less entertaining fights, while others claimed he strategically avoided high-risk opponents.
His time outside the ring has also been marked by legal troubles, including serving a prison sentence related to domestic violence charges.

Mayweather’s last official professional contest came in 2017 when he defeated UFC star Conor McGregor. Since then, he has taken part in several exhibition bouts, including a win over John Gotti III in Mexico in August 2024, along with appearances against social media personalities and crossover fighters.
He has reportedly entered into an exclusive promotional agreement with CSI Sports/Fight Sports ahead of his return.
Reports from Ring Magazine suggest the Tyson exhibition could take place on April 25 in the Congo, although neither the date nor venue has been formally confirmed.
Tyson, 59, last fought in November 2024, suffering a one-sided defeat to Jake Paul in Texas. That event, backed by Netflix, attracted roughly 70,000 fans in attendance and millions more watching worldwide.
Mayweather’s announcement signals that, even years after retiring undefeated, he believes there is still more history to be made.
