EKO HOT BLOG reports that the event will examine the role of editors in promoting democratic values, unity, and accountability in a diverse society. Discussions will centre on how the media can foster inclusion, dialogue, and national cohesion despite political, ethnic, and religious divides.
The conference will feature presentations on topics such as “Election Disputes and Judicial Integrity,” “State of the Nation: Imperative of Economic and Political Reforms,” “Battling Misinformation and AI Disruption,” and “Media, Terrorism, and National Security.” A special session on investment opportunities for editors beyond journalism is also scheduled.
President Tinubu, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, opposition party leaders, governors, diplomats, and private sector stakeholders are expected to attend.
Over 500 media professionals from within and outside Nigeria will participate in the conference, which is being held in the Federal Capital Territory for only the second time in 12 years.
The Guild stressed that in the face of Nigeria’s socio-economic challenges, the media must strengthen its role in advancing democracy, bridging divides, and holding leaders accountable. This year’s gathering also follows the Guild’s biennial national convention in Enugu State, where new executives were elected.
