The suspect was arrested and detained for allegedly torturing and killing her 11-year-old maid identified as Margaret Joshua.
According to the Plateau Police spokesperson, Alfred Alabo, Joshua was held down in hot water by the female microbiologist, until her buttocks were severely burnt.
The suspect, a mother of two had reportedly promised to enroll the victim, Joshua, in a school but she refused and turned her into a maid.
Information made available revealed that Joshua hailed from Kebbi State and was said to have fled the state following a terrorist attack. She was helped by a Good Samaritan who brought her to Jos after insecurity forced her out of Kebbi.
It was reported that the victim was beaten severally before being made to sit in a container filled with hot water. The hot water burnt her and affected her private parts.
While narrating part of the incident, the coordinator of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Plateau State, Mrs Grace Pam, said the body of the victim was full of scares and wounds.
Mrs Grace who was following up on the incident also revealed that Margaret’s guardians must have subjected her to a series of torture during the period she stayed with them.
Sadly, the girl was found in the street after which a helper took her to the police station at K-vom. Reacting to the emergency, she was rushed to hospital but she died 24 hours later as she could not survive the torture.
In her words, “Our attention was called to the situation on Monday, by a staff member of the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH), who said that an 11-year-old girl had been seriously beaten up and injured by her guardian.
“On getting to the hospital we saw several old and new scars, and injuries on her entire body. We were told that she was taken to Mandela Hospital in K-Vom, but was referred to JUTH due to the severity of her wounds.
“When we met the suspect at the police station where she was initially detained, she claimed that the girl used to masturbate, and so she was beaten to make her stop.
