- Warns that the fake video was capable of misleading the public
- The video suggested that the military intended to compel young Nigerians to join the armed forces
The Defence Headquarters has dismissed claims that the Nigerian military plans to forcefully recruit citizens aged 18 and above, describing a viral video making the allegation as fake and malicious.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the Director Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Samaila Uba, said the video widely shared online was created using a cloned image of the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, and falsely attributed statements he never made.

According to him, the video suggested that the military intended to compel young Nigerians to join the armed forces, an allegation he described as baseless and aimed at damaging the reputation of the CDS and the Armed Forces.
Uba stressed that recruitment into the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force is voluntary and continues to attract thousands of patriotic citizens who willingly sign up during official recruitment exercises.

He warned that the fake video was capable of misleading the public and portraying the military in a negative light.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the alleged statement was never made by the Chief of Defence Staff, any of the Service Chiefs, or any member of the Armed Forces of Nigeria,” Uba stated.
Highlighting the rising misuse of Artificial Intelligence to create deceptive content, he urged Nigerians to verify information before sharing.
“All statements from the Chief of Defence Staff can be confirmed through authorised Defence Headquarters spokespersons and official social media channels. The public should disregard the fake video,” he added.
