A tanker loaded with petrol exploded in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State, killing one person and destroying at least six shops.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the incident occurred last week Friday along Udoji Road, near the Ekwusigo LGA Secretariat, after the tanker reportedly collided with a car and a tricycle.

The impact caused fuel to spill, leading to a massive fire that spread rapidly.
An eyewitness told reporters that the collision triggered a loud explosion that engulfed the tanker and nearby structures.
“The tanker hit a car and a tricycle, spilled its contents and then exploded. One person was burnt instantly. Some passengers in the tricycle sustained severe burns and were rushed to the hospital. Several shops were already on fire before firefighters arrived,” the witness said.

The Head of Media and Publicity for the Anambra State Fire Service, Chukwudi Chiketa, confirmed the incident on Sunday. He said three fire trucks were deployed immediately after a distress call was received.
According to him, one life was lost and about six shops were affected.
He added, “Anambra State Fire Service, on November 21, 2025, at 17:45hrs, received a distress call reporting a fire outbreak involving a tanker laden with Premium Motor Spirit at Udoji Road, Ozubulu. The tanker had collided with a car and a tricycle, resulting in a severe fire outbreak. Three firefighting trucks were deployed to the scene.”
