MKO Abiola Stadium, Alake Sports Centre Undergo Major Renovations For National Sports Festival

During an inspection of the facilities, Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, assured that the renovation work would be completed on schedule and tested before the event.

Ongoing efforts include scraping the main bowl pitch, removing tartan tracks, and replacing roofs at the Alake Sports Centre’s indoor hall.
Isiaka announced plans to expand the VIP section of the stadium and construct an Olympic-sized swimming pool, tennis courts, and handball courts.
He emphasized the state’s commitment to enhancing sports infrastructure and promoting youth development programs aimed at discovering and nurturing young athletes.
The commissioner underscored the significance of channelling the energy of Ogun’s youth into productive ventures, highlighting the socio-economic benefits of supporting athletic potential.
He reiterated the government’s dedication to hosting a world-class National Sports Festival, noting the event would not only inspire future generations of athletes but also celebrate the state’s rich cultural heritage.
Isiaka promised to reward outstanding performances during the festival.
He further emphasized that the extensive renovations would improve the development of local athletes and demonstrate the state’s readiness to host the festival.

He called on corporate bodies and individuals to collaborate with the government to ensure the NSF’s success.
Isiaka expressed that the festival is an opportunity for Ogun State to showcase its talent, potential, and hospitality, and confirmed that the upgraded facilities would attract both national and international events.
The 2024 National Sports Festival is scheduled to take place from January 12 to January 26, 2025.
