All terms have been verbally agreed between José Mourinho and Real Madrid, waiting to sign all documents. Plan for the initial two year deal, JM to travel to Madrid after the Real-Bilbao game. The Special One is back.”
Mourinho is expected to sign an initial two-year contract and will reportedly arrive in Madrid after the club’s final La Liga fixture against Real Sociedad. His appointment would mark a major managerial shift following a disappointing campaign for Real Madrid.
The Portuguese coach is set to replace current interim boss Álvaro Arbeloa, with club president Florentino Pérez believed to be fully convinced that Mourinho is the right figure to restore stability and authority within the dressing room.
Although the agreement is largely complete, Real Madrid are still required to activate a €3 million release clause in Mourinho’s Benfica contract before the move can be officially confirmed. Both parties are said to be keen on completing the process swiftly ahead of the summer transfer window.
Reports from Spain suggest Mourinho has already begun outlining his expectations for squad restructuring. Juventus winger Kenan Yıldız is among the players linked with a potential move, while several exits are also expected, including Dani Ceballos and Gonzalo García.
Mourinho has publicly denied holding talks with Real Madrid, insisting his focus remains on Benfica’s final match of the season. However, behind the scenes, discussions have reportedly advanced significantly.
Club president Florentino Pérez recently praised the Portuguese tactician, saying: “He was here before and he raised our level.”
Mourinho previously managed Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, winning La Liga in the 2011–12 season. Since leaving the Spanish capital, he has coached Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, AS Roma, Fenerbahçe and Benfica.
