EKO HOT BLOG reports that the strike is a direct response to the federal government’s failure to fulfill its promise of paying four months of withheld salaries.
Despite multiple appeals and negotiations, the government has reportedly not taken sufficient steps to resolve the issue.
A circular issued by the JAC detailed the decision to strike and explained that the initial strike date of October 23rd was postponed to accommodate a crucial NASU branch meeting.
The unions expressed frustration over the government’s lack of commitment to resolving the crisis, particularly highlighting the alleged inaction of the Finance Minister on President Bola Tinubu’s directive to release 50% of the owed salaries.
The impact of this strike is expected to be far-reaching, disrupting academic activities across Nigerian universities.

Students may face delays in examinations, thesis submissions, and other academic processes. Additionally, administrative tasks, including student registrations and result processing, could be affected.
The JAC has vowed to continue the strike until the government fully addresses their demands.
The situation remains tense, with both sides seemingly entrenched in their positions.
