EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking on Friday during the ongoing Hallelujah Challenge, the Imela crooner disclosed that his wife had gone through five miscarriages over the years. Despite the emotional toll, Bassey said he remained steadfast in his faith and commitment to ministering.
He revealed that during one of the most difficult moments—when his wife was hospitalised due to an ectopic pregnancy—he would still leave the hospital to lead worship sessions online before returning to be by her side.
In his words: “My wife will have to forgive me. Do you know that there were times during the Hallelujah Challenge when we had a miscarriage and nobody knew? I would still come online to praise and dance. Some years ago, she was on the hospital bed with an ectopic pregnancy. I would leave to lead worship, and when I returned, the nurses attending to her would tell me how powerful the session was. Not one, not two, not three, not four — five miscarriages.”
Reflecting on those painful years, Bassey said the experiences strengthened his faith in God. “So when people ask, ‘Where is God?’ I tell them I understand. God is faithful. One of the words He gave us was, ‘Don’t give up on God,’” he said.

The gospel artist also shared a lighter story, recalling how someone sent him a message about a surprising encounter that reinforced the same message of hope. “Someone went to a Chinese restaurant, and you know how they sometimes put messages inside cookies? When he opened it, the words inside were: ‘Don’t give up,’” Bassey narrated with a smile.
