According to Commodore Aiweyor Adams-Aliu, the Nigerian Navy’s Director of Information, the force has dismantled 71 illegal refining sites and seized a significant amount of stolen crude oil and other products over the past month through a special operation called “Operation Delta Sanity.”
Eko Hot Blog reports that the operation led to the discovery and destruction of 120 dugout pits and illegal refinery camps across Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom states.

In addition, the Navy seized a total of about 411,400 liters of stolen crude oil, along with illegally refined products, including 87,825 liters of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), 72,000 liters of Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK), and 21,900 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
The report highlights several specific operations. For example, on July 4, naval personnel destroyed six illegal refinery sites in Rivers State, seizing a large quantity of crude oil and refined AGO.

Also, on July 12, another site was taken down in Delta State, and two days later, three suspected smugglers were caught in Akwa Ibom with PMS.
Furthermore, the Navy also discovered an underground reservoir with more than 7,000 liters of crude oil in Delta State and destroyed two illegal sites in Bayelsa State.
These efforts are part of the Navy’s ongoing commitment to completely stop crude oil theft and improve Nigeria’s oil production, under the leadership of the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla.
