- Former Kano governor claimed Buhari ignored supporters after 2015 victory.
- Kwankwaso said Nigerians now seek quality leadership beyond ethnic politics.
Former Kano State Governor and former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has revealed that the Nigeria Democratic Congress and the African Democratic Congress may eventually form an alliance ahead of the 2027 general election.
Kwankwaso made the disclosure on Monday during a live appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme while speaking on his political realignment and reported alliance with former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
“The NDC and ADC may still work together before the election,” Kwankwaso said.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that he noted that many young Nigerians were becoming less interested in ethnic and religious politics and were now more focused on leadership capable of transforming the country.
“So you see, there is a lot happening in this country, but older people don’t even understand.
“People are talking of religion and ethnicity. People are talking, especially those at our ages, but the younger people are looking for the right leadership for this country, and I think they are absolutely right,” he stated.
Kwankwaso also reflected on his role in the emergence of former President Muhammadu Buhari in the 2015 presidential election.
According to him, his political structure contributed nearly two million votes to Buhari’s victory but received no political reward or recognition from the administration.
“I worked so hard. We brought about 1.9 million, almost 2 million votes. But as politicians, we are not recognised. We put our lives on the line at that time,” he said.
“But unfortunately, we could not see any benefit either as individuals or the constituencies that we represented.”
The former governor reviewed Nigeria’s democratic journey since 1999, commending former President Olusegun Obasanjo for his efforts while noting that the late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua faced major health challenges during his administration.
Kwankwaso added that former President Goodluck Jonathan also battled political controversies surrounding his tenure.
Speaking on the administration of President Bola Tinubu, Kwankwaso said Nigerians were demanding change at the grassroots.
“Everybody knows there are issues with this administration again,” he stated.
He further disclosed that the NDC had witnessed growing support since he and Obi joined the party on May 3, adding that supporters were opening offices across different parts of the world.
Kwankwaso also defended the decision to zone the NDC presidential ticket to Southern Nigeria, insisting that quality leadership mattered more than regional considerations.

“What is key is to have quality leadership, people who are enthusiastic, determined and committed to give the country the leadership it deserves,” he added.
