A former Leader of the Nigerian Senate and Senator representing Borno South, Ali Ndume, has commended the Nigerian Army for its swift intervention in restoring peace and stability in Kirawa, a border community recently attacked by Boko Haram insurgents.
Eko Hot Blog reports that residents of the town, located along the Nigeria–Cameroon border, had fled into neighbouring Cameroon after militants invaded the community, setting several homes, the palace of the district head, and a military barracks ablaze.

However, the insurgents were repelled after the military deployed reinforcements, with many residents now returning home following the deployment of additional personnel.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Senator Ndume praised the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-General Olufemi Oluyede, and the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, for their timely response and the deployment of the 153rd Task Force Battalion to the troubled area.
He noted that the military’s rapid reaction prevented further destruction and loss of lives, stressing that the troops’ presence should be made permanent given Kirawa’s strategic location as a border town.
“The courage displayed by our military and their resilience remain laudable,” Ndume said.

“I have always acknowledged that our armed forces are overstretched, yet I am impressed with their successes despite the challenges.”
The lawmaker also called for strengthened collaboration between Nigerian and Cameroonian forces to enhance security along shared border communities and prevent future incursions by insurgents.
