New Minimum Wage
  • Negotiations for a new minimum wage between the Federal Government and organized labor have stalled due to differing proposals.

  • The NLC and TUC proposed N615,000, while the government and private sector suggested N60,000 to N70,000.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that negotiations between the Federal Government and organized labor for a new minimum wage have reached an impasse.
President Bola Tinubu established a tripartite committee in January, comprising government, labor, and private sector representatives, to review the N30,000 minimum wage introduced by the Muhammadu Buhari administration.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) proposed an N615,000 minimum wage to the Tripartite Committee, which the government has not accepted.

According to a top official from the Ministry of Labour and Employment, speaking anonymously to The Punch, the negotiations ended without agreement because the two parties failed to reach a consensus on the new minimum wage.
