- Neymar’s contract with Al-Hilal terminated by mutual consent after just seven appearances due to injuries.
- The Brazilian forward, still the world’s most expensive player, has been linked with a return to Santos.
- Despite a high-profile career, Neymar has struggled with injuries since joining Saudi Arabia in 2023.
Neymar has mutually agreed to terminate his contract with Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, just months after joining the club in August 2023 for €90 million (£77.6m).
The 32-year-old Brazil international, who is still the world’s most expensive footballer following his £200m move to Paris Saint-Germain in 2017, has only made seven appearances for Al-Hilal, largely due to injury. His most recent appearance came in November as a substitute, and he has only played twice this season.

Despite the short stint, Neymar has been linked with a return to his former club, Santos in Brazil, where he began his career. Al-Hilal thanked Neymar for his contributions during his time at the club and wished him well for the future.
Neymar had approximately seven months remaining on his two-year contract with Al-Hilal, which reportedly paid him €150 million (£129.2m) annually.

He joined with the intention to “write new sporting history,” but his time in Saudi Arabia was hampered by a serious knee injury sustained during Brazil’s World Cup qualifier against Uruguay in October 2023. After recovering, he played briefly in October, but an ongoing hamstring issue has kept him sidelined since.
Neymar made his name at Santos, where he scored 136 goals in 225 games before moving to Barcelona in 2013. During his four seasons in Spain, he won two La Liga titles, the Champions League, and the Club World Cup.

He then made a record-breaking transfer to PSG, where he won five Ligue 1 titles before heading to Saudi Arabia.
In addition to his club achievements, Neymar overtook Pele as Brazil’s all-time leading male goalscorer with 78 goals, though he has not played for his country since his knee injury in 2023.
