EKO HOT BLOG reports that the decision follows his sending off during Bayern’s 2-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month. UEFA said the punishment was based on what it described as “serious rough play” in the stoppage-time tackle that brought down Achraf Hakimi near the end of the first half. Hakimi has since been sidelined with a badly sprained left ankle.
Díaz had opened the night strongly, scoring twice to put Bayern in control at the Parc des Princes before the momentum changed with the red card. UEFA’s ruling means he will miss the fixtures against Arsenal on Wednesday, Sporting CP on December 9, and Union Saint-Gilloise on January 21.
Bayern currently top their Champions League group with four wins from four, but the suspension came as an unexpected twist, especially after earlier comments from manager Vincent Kompany. Speaking on Friday, Kompany had suggested a lighter sanction was likely.
“My information is that he’s suspended for one game,” Kompany said. “I’d be really disappointed if it turned out my information wasn’t correct,” he added, with sporting director Christoph Freund saying he had received similar information.
Kompany also attempted to shift focus back to domestic duty, noting Bayern still have business to handle before their trip to London.

“There’s no question of any load management for Díaz. He has to help us with his energy. The game against Arsenal doesn’t have much influence. The lads will go into the Freiburg game full of energy. We want to win that game and aren’t worrying about Arsenal yet,” he said.
