Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has congratulated Nigerian sprinter Ajayi Kayinsola and British-Nigerian basketball star OG Anunoby for their remarkable achievements on the international stage.

She noted that the sprinter made history by becoming the first Nigerian in 18 years to qualify for the men’s 100 metres final at the 2025 World Athletics Championships.
She also highlighted his impressive form in 2026, during which he shattered Nigeria’s long-standing 100m record and established himself among the fastest sprinters in the world.
According to her, Ajayi’s achievements demonstrate the value of investing in youth development, sports and talent discovery across the country.
“His success story underscores the importance of investing in youth development, sports and talent discovery,” she said, while encouraging stakeholders to continue supporting young Nigerian talents.
The NiDCOM chairman also commended Anunoby for his match-winning contribution during the NBA Finals, where he played a crucial role in helping the New York Knicks secure a dramatic victory in Game 4.

She described the basketball star’s performance as another example of the impact Nigerians in the diaspora continue to make on the global stage.
Dabiri-Erewa said both athletes have become symbols of excellence, resilience and determination, adding that their accomplishments continue to project a positive image of Nigeria around the world.
