Nigeria has recorded another achievement on the international stage as two young Nigerians, Maryam and Muhammad, emerged among the 50 winners of the 46th King Abdulaziz International Qur’an Competition in Saudi Arabia.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the competition attracted 334 contestants from 133 countries, bringing together some of the best Qur’an memorizers and reciters from around the world.

The Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols at the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abdur-Rahman Balogun, said the achievement was a major source of pride for Nigeria.
He noted that Saudi Arabia has organised the competition for more than four decades as part of efforts to promote Qur’an memorisation, recitation and study among young Muslims worldwide.
According to him, this year’s competition also featured a prize fund of more than SAR10.26 million, approximately N4.1 billion, for successful contestants.
Balogun said the emergence of Maryam and Muhammad among the 50 winners showed their dedication, discipline and hard work in Qur’anic studies.
The NiDCOM Chairman and CEO, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, congratulated the two Nigerians, describing their success as a proud moment for the country.
Dabiri-Erewa said their achievement went beyond winning a competition, noting that they had represented Nigeria positively on an important international platform.
She added that their success should encourage other young Nigerians to pursue their talents with determination, hard work and discipline.
The NiDCOM boss also commended the Saudi Arabian authorities for continuing to promote Qur’anic knowledge and providing an international platform for participants from different countries.
“NIDCOM celebrates Maryam and Muhammad and wishes them continued success as they grow in their Qur’anic journey and continue to make Nigeria proud. Congratulations, Maryam and Muhammad. Nigeria is proud of you,” she said.
