Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has expressed grief over the death of veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, describing his passing as a painful loss to Nigeria’s creative industry.
Eko Hot Blog reports that Hassan died on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66, after a battle with stage-four cancer. His death came only days after his family publicly disclosed his health condition and appealed for assistance as they sought treatment for the veteran actor.

In a condolence message shared on social media, Atiku described the news of Ogogo’s death as deeply saddening, noting that the actor’s passing came shortly after Nigerians became aware of his battle with cancer.
Atiku said Ogogo was more than an accomplished actor, stressing that his decades-long career had made a significant contribution to Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
According to the former Vice President, the late actor used his talent to entertain, educate and inspire audiences while telling stories that reflected Nigerian society.
He said Ogogo’s performances brought laughter into countless homes and helped shape the experiences of generations of Nigerians who followed Yoruba-language films.
Atiku further described the late actor’s death as a major loss to the creative community, saying his departure had created a painful void among colleagues and millions of admirers who cherished his work.
He extended his condolences to Ogogo’s family, colleagues, friends and fans in Nigeria and across the world.
Atiku also prayed for the repose of the actor’s soul and asked God to give his loved ones the strength to cope with the loss.
