The Federal Government has announced plans to establish 500 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) refuelling stations nationwide over the next three years, a move aimed at promoting cleaner fuels, reducing petrol dependence, and lowering transportation costs.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that Oluwole Adama, Executive Director of the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF), confirmed that discussions with Chinese equipment manufacturer Endurance Group have been successfully concluded to roll out the initiative.

The agreement includes the creation of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) jointly supported by MDGIF, the Bank of Industry, Endurance Group, and Séquor Investment Partners to oversee the project.

The SPV, named Compressed Natural Gas Auto Mobility Infrastructure Company (CAM InfraCo), will deploy 500 integrated CNG stations across the country, develop LCNG supply infrastructure, and provide CNG and LNG transport trucks with truck-mounted cascades, effectively creating a virtual pipeline connecting all states.
Adama highlighted that the initiative will address current logistical challenges, including long queues at existing stations, by expanding access to refuelling points and ensuring steady gas supply.
The plan aligns with the government’s efforts to transition from petrol and diesel to more affordable and environmentally friendly energy alternatives.

Senior Special Adviser to the President on Special Duties, Oluwatoyin Subair, emphasized that the CAM InfraCo project supports President Bola Tinubu’s energy security agenda, creating jobs and enhancing the domestic gas value chain.
Eric Lin, CEO of Endurance Group, added that the SPV will establish a nationwide CNG refuelling and maintenance network, leasing equipment to certified operators and ensuring uninterrupted supply through strategically located mother stations.
When fully implemented, the initiative is expected to deepen gas-powered transportation, reduce dependence on imported fuels, and accelerate Nigeria’s transition to cleaner energy.
