Nigerian Institute Of Journalism, NIJ, To Mark 50th Anniversary/6th Convocation Ceremony

The Nigerian Institution of Journalism, NIJ, has announced plans for its Golden Jubilee celebration that will also feature the 6th Convocation ceremony of the institution.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the institution, Tolulope Ojemuyiwa, and made available to Eko Hot Blog.

As gathered, the twin ceremony will hold at the Lagos campus of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, NIJ, Ogba-Ikeja, between Monday, November 29 and Tuesday, November 30, 2021.

Highlights of the event will include a Convocation Lecture titled: MEDIA, SECURITY AND NATION BUILDING with the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Mr Kayode Fayemi, as the guest speaker.

The Golden Jubilee/Convocation ceremony will also feature a Photo Exhibition as well as an entrepreneurial products exhibition.

Chief Olusegun Osoba, former governor of Ogun State, who also serves as the Chairman of the Governing Council will perform the honours of issuing certificates to this year’s batch of graduands.

Over 908 graduands will receive certificates in different areas of study. According to the breakdown of graduands, 384 students will receive certificates for National Diploma (ND) while 295 students will receive their Higher National Diploma certificates (HND). 167 Post Graduate Diploma students (PGD) will also be awarded certificates.

Other Certificate courses; Proficiency Certificate in Photojournalism (PCPJ) = 19, Effective Writing and Communication (EWC) will also be issued to 43 graduands.

Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Otunba TJ, Publisher of a Lagos-based news outlet, Eko Hot Blog who is also one of the graduands for this year’s convocation ceremony, described the occasion as a crowning moment for tenacious individuals who have chosen to be ambassadors of the truth.

Noting that Journalism is what maintains democracy, he hailed the graduands for joining the quest for progressive social change and admonished them to be guided by the basic axiom that the courage in journalism is sticking up for the unpopular, not the popular.
