This is to protest against a recent increase in call and data charges.
In a statement on Wednesday, NLC President Joe Ajaero and Secretary Emmanuel Ugboaja demanded that the telecom companies cancel the price increase immediately. They warned that if their demand is not met, they will take stronger action.
“The telecom companies must return to the old prices until discussions on the issue are completed and a final decision is made,” the statement said.
The NLC described the increase as unfair and accused both the telecom providers and the government of ignoring the struggles of Nigerians. They said that with rising prices, low salaries, and economic hardship, the increase in call and data charges is unacceptable.
“To fight this unfair price increase, Nigerian workers and other concerned citizens will stop using MTN, Airtel, and Glo services every day from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, starting Thursday, February 13, until the end of February,” the statement continued.
The NLC also warned that if the telecom companies do not reduce their prices by February 29, they will take stronger action, including shutting down telecom services nationwide from March 1.
“The NLC calls on civil society groups and all Nigerians to join the protest against these unfair price increases,” Ajaero said, urging everyone to stand together against the high cost of essential services.

The NLC also discussed ongoing tax reform bills and criticized the government’s financial policies. While they agree that reforms are needed, they promised to fight against any new policies that will make life harder for Nigerians.
