Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Atiku Abubakar, stands little chance of making a significant impact in Rivers State during the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking on Saturday at a reception organised for candidates of the Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State, Eko Hot Blog gathered that Wike expressed confidence that the coalition would remain the dominant political force in the state ahead of the next general election.

Wike argued that emerging opposition platforms lacked practical electoral experience, claiming their strength had largely been built around defections rather than participation in major elections.
According to him, the 2027 polls would test their real political capacity, beginning with Rivers State.
The former governor also maintained that genuine support for President Bola Tinubu should be demonstrated through electoral performance rather than public declarations or political visits.

Reflecting on the 2023 election, Wike noted that Atiku failed to secure a substantial share of votes in Rivers State and insisted that his coalition would ensure a similar outcome in 2027.
He further asserted that no governorship aspirant would emerge victorious in Rivers State without the support of the Rainbow Coalition, describing the alliance as a decisive force in determining the state’s political future.
However, he clarified that no individual had yet been chosen as the coalition’s preferred candidate for the governorship race.
Wike also praised members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for what he described as their commitment to democratic principles during the state’s political crisis.
He singled out Speaker Martin Amaewhule and his colleagues for standing firm during challenging periods, saying their actions would remain part of the state’s political history.
