- ‘North Has Made Strategic Move’ – Momodu Predicts Atiku’s Victory
- He predicted the former vice president would dominate northern votes.
- Momodu believes Atiku can also secure support in parts of South.
A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has expressed confidence that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar can defeat President Bola Tinubu and Labour Party’s Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election if he secures overwhelming support from the North.
Momodu made the assertion during an interview with journalist Oseni Rufai on Nevon Media on Friday, where he described the next presidential contest as one that would pose a significant challenge to the incumbent president.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to him, Atiku remains a formidable political force and is well positioned to dominate the northern region, which he said holds a substantial share of Nigeria’s voting population.
“As I predicted, Atiku will win the majority of the North, and if he is able to compete favourably in the South, it will be over for President Tinubu and Peter Obi.
“Atiku will secure at least 25% of the votes in 26 states while also dominating the North, which is where the bulk of the votes are,” Momodu said.
The media entrepreneur and politician also pointed to the constitutional requirements for winning a presidential election, noting that a candidate must secure the highest number of votes and obtain at least 25 per cent of votes in two thirds of the states.
He argued that Atiku’s political strategy would be strengthened by consolidating support across key northern states before expanding his appeal in the South.
“Once you get voluminous votes from the north, it will leave the south limping. That’s why Tinubu is desperate to make sure that they delete some parties. Especially because of Atiku. And the north has already played a strategic thing this time. That move is so strategic that they made sure there is no strong leader competing against Atiku in the north.
“Now, Kwankwaso is a running mate. The north will not play second fiddle; just like in the south, they are blaming anybody who is competing against Tinubu as a traitor, the same way the north is treating anybody who does not support Atiku as a traitor. So, that’s number one. So, that’s a different scenario from 2023,” he stated.
Momodu further expressed optimism about Atiku’s chances of attracting support in parts of the South, particularly in Osun State.
“He (Atiku) will then navigate his way to the south. In the south, there is no way he will not compete well in Osun State. There is no way,” he added.

His comments come amid growing political realignments and early permutations ahead of the 2027 general election, with major opposition figures and political parties already positioning themselves for the contest.
