Northern Blackout Man-Made, Planned To Cripple Its Economy – ACF
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has expressed deep concern over the prolonged power outage affecting the northern part of Nigeria. The group alleges that the Federal Government’s inaction is contributing to the region’s worsening economic woes.
In a statement, ACF criticized the government for its lack of urgency in addressing the issue, which has led to significant disruptions in economic and social activities.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the group questioned the government’s reliance on security challenges as an excuse, arguing that a well-funded security apparatus should be capable of protecting critical infrastructure like power lines.
ACF highlighted the stark disparity in power distribution, with Lagos having eight power substations while the entire northern region, home to over half of Nigeria’s population, has only three. This inequitable allocation, the group contends, is a threat to national security and a clear injustice.
The Forum called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on the power crisis and to ensure a fair and equitable distribution of electricity across the country. They also urged northern state governors and National Assembly members to advocate strongly for their constituents’ interests.
The power outage has had a severe impact on individuals and businesses in the region, with many struggling to cope with the lack of electricity. ACF’s plea for urgent action reflects the growing frustration and discontent among the northern population.
