He made this promise during his visit to the Yaba College of Technology Akoka Lagos on Friday, 14 February 2025.

The HME, whose administration is keen on further improvement of science, technology, and vocational education, has been on a facility tour across federal educational institutions in Lagos.

The concerned students of Yaba College of Technology expressed their displeasure at being disqualified to enroll in NYSC.

The students who were led by the student union government of the institution leveraged the HME visit to the institution to solicit his intervention on the exclusion of students who were awarded OND on part-time and HND on full-time programs.

The students appealed to the minister on behalf of all polytechnic students in Nigeria.

“We sent the petition to your office on the 31st of December 2024 and sent another on the 27th of January 2025, which were acknowledged. We are begging you, on behalf of all polytechnic students in Nigeria, to have mercy on us; we are pleading, sir.” They echoed.

However, Dr. Tunji Alausa assured the students of his intervention and ascertained that their concern would be duly addressed.

‘’I can tell you that I am aware of the situation and I am on top of it. I am with you, and I see no reason you should be excluded. I can assure you that this will be resolved.” He said.

He also commended their disposition while addressing the issue and encouraged them to continue being patriotic citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“I like the way you have comported yourselves; I want you all to be patriotic citizens of this country and seize negative comments about our country. “ He added.

The Yabatech Student Union president, Morakinyo Ola Olushola, appreciated the minister for giving the students the opportunity to express themselves and also appealed to the HME for his immediate intervention.

“I appreciate you for listening to us. We are seeing you for the first time, and you stopped to speak to us. You have shown us that you are passionate about our growth. Please make this happen so that OND part-time students who converted to HND full-time can serve.” He said.

The honourable minister reassured the students, indicating his approval on a memo sent to his office from the executive secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) that has been sent to the director general of NYSC for implementation.
