Speaking at the event, which benefited over 100 women, Dr. Finnih, represented by her Technical Assistant, Dr. Oluwunmi Akinlade, emphasized the importance of engaging in income-generating activities, regardless of scale, and adopting a saving culture.
“Our advice to women is to make sure that they save,” she said. “We want every woman to be able to fend for herself. Financial independence is key to ensuring stability for our women and their children. We aim to help them achieve this through empowerment initiatives like this programme.”
The event, organized in collaboration with Human Capital Development (HCD) Africa, sought to advocate for women’s financial inclusion in hard-to-reach communities and promote awareness of data as a tool for enhancing development outcomes.
Representatives from the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASSRA) and the National Identification Management Commission (NIMC) also educated the women on the importance of data for planning and development.
Mr. Kayode Yusuf from LASSRA said, “Registering with LASSRA allows the government to accurately plan and provide amenities that meet the needs of our communities.”
Similarly, Mr. Saheed Adebayo from NIMC encouraged the women to get their National Identification Numbers (NIN), stating, “NIN is essential for every Nigerian citizen and aids access to government services.”
Some beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the initiative. Mrs. Oyinade Ilesanmi remarked, “I have learned how to manage and invest my money better. The opportunity to open a bank account and register for LASSRA and NIN has made this programme very impactful.”

Another participant, Halimot Abiodun, commended the organizers, saying, “This programme has changed my orientation about savings and investment. I am grateful to the Lagos State Government and their partners for bringing this to our doorstep.”
The Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC) in Eredo LCDA, Mr. Yakubu Akingbade, lauded the initiative and appealed for more support. “This advocacy programme will positively affect the women. I encourage the government to follow up with soft loans to help them expand their businesses,” he said.
